This is the amount of web space that is reserved on our server for your email and hosting account.

• From your control panel you can view and manage your current usage
• If you start to reach the limit of your web space we will send you an email giving you the option to delete old and unused files, add more space to your existing account or upgrade to our next plan, there is no cost of an upgrade other than the difference in the price of the Plans.

This is the amount of data transferred to and from your site. Data transfer is measured by:

• Website being viewed.
• Email activity.
• FTP activity

Each time you visit a website, you are creating traffic, because in order to view that web page on your computer, the web page is first downloaded to your computer (between the website and you) which is then displayed using your browser software (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, etc.). The page itself is simply a file that creates traffic. This is the same for emails and ftp accounts.

Hosting & Web Solutions does not charge a set up fee for this plan, the only cost you pay for is the cost of the plan and/or the domain name.

We often get asked if there were any hidden costs since our prices are very low.

Any website that you host with us is viewable and operable from all operating systems.

Many service providers put profits over service and reliability by cramming hundreds sometimes even thousands of websites on the same server. We are totally against overselling server space and have a server structure plan to which we stick to religiously.

We understand that websites and email space need "room to move" as businesses expand, therefore we leave plenty of room on each server for projected maximum growth. Keeping load to a minimum ensures the smooth operation of our servers and your site.

Hosting & Web Solutions use all high quality Dell hardware, which are the at the same standard as what the major banks use in Ireland. You can rest assured that your data is safe and will always be available.

All of our servers include two separate power supply units within them, each of which is capable of powering the entire system by itself. If, for some reason, there is a failure in one of the units, the other one will seamlessly take over to prevent the loss of power to the PC. A Hosting & Web Solutions technician will then replace the faulty unit all without your site ever going offline.

With all of our hosting accounts you can host ANY domain name extension. Eg. .ie, .com, .co.uk, .net, .biz, .org, .info, .tv. The list goes on ...

Subdomains allow you to create domains such as http://sales.mycompany.com and http://widgets.mycompany.com. This is a useful feature for search engines as they are considered to be separate domain names, giving you more exposure and increase your click through rate.

An add-on domain is a new domain that is added on top of your main domain. It creates a sub directory within your main web hosting directory but can show a different web site. The add-on domain collects the information from the sub domain directory using the same space and bandwidth as your main account.

Let's say you own www.mycompany.com, but you also own www.mycompany.ie, www.mycompany.co.uk, www.mycompany.org, etc. You want these domains to also point to your same www.mycompany.com site so you "Park" them to your primary site.

Another classic example for Domain Parking is if you owned one domain such as www.mycompany.com but for marketing purposes also used other domains like www.mybusiness.com or www.myfamily.com, etc.

Redirect Domains (also called Domain forwarding) allows you to redirect web requests for your domain name to a site hosted on a different server (such as the free web space your ISP may provide).

For example if you already have a website such as (http://my.isp.net/~username) you will be able to access it via a short domain based URL such as http://www.mycompany.com.

This allows you to create email addresses with your domain name extension, for example if your domain name is www.mycompany.com and your name is Caoilynn you could have an email address like caoilynn@mycompany.com

• This account comes with unlimited email addresses. Perfect for a business start up.
• All accounts can be checked via web mail or your favorite email client.

This feature allows you to check your email when you are away from the home or office, simply type www.yourdomain.com/webmail and you can log in to your email account in the same way you would utilise your Hotmail or Yahoo! account.

• Each email account user you create from your control panel has access to their own webmail account, great for when you are on holidays.

All accounts have POP3 and SMTP activated, so you can check your email from your preferred email client such as Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express, Pocket PC, PDA or any other POP3 email program.

IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. It is a method of accessing email messages that are kept on a mail server. In other words, it permits a "client" email program to access remote message stores as if they were local. For example, email stored on an IMAP server can be manipulated from a desktop computer at home, a workstation at the office, and a notebook computer while traveling, without the need to transfer messages or files back and forth between these computers.

• Each email account you create has access to IMAP, you need to configure support for this in your email client.

You can check your email from ANY email client on any computer running any operating system, Windows, Mac, UNIX or Linux.

BoxTrapper protects your inbox from spam by forcing all people not on your white list to reply to a verification email before they can send mail to you. If you are using this feature you will need to keep an eye on your BoxTrapper Queue to ensure that any mail you wish to receive is not trapped.

Our state of the art spam filtering system will save you valuable time. Our spam scanning software will stop up to 90% of junk mail destined for your mailbox. We use a number of programs and applications that help reduce spam.

• All email accounts that you set up have spam filtering automatically enabled.
• Each user can log in to their user management account and further filter email by using special rules; they can even stop email coming from one or a number of email accounts.

Mailing lists can simplify sending messages to a large group of people. You can add a group of email addresses to a mailing list to avoid typing in those addresses each time a mailing is sent. This can be very useful when sending newsletters or other updates to large groups of people.

Never miss an email with this feature. If someone sends you an email and spells your name wrong you will still get the email in your inbox.

You will be surprised by the amount of email received using this feature. This feature is disabled by default and can be activated from within your control panel.

Auto responders automatically respond to anyone that sends mail to it. They have many uses including vacation notices. If you had a vacation auto responder for instance, you could turn it on when you go on holidays, and anyone that sends mail to your address while you're gone will get an immediate response stating that you are away.

This feature allows you to automatically forward your email to another address such as a Hotmail, Bigpond, Optusnet or Yahoo! account.

• The administrator can forward any users email account to another account or each email user can configure email forwarding themselves from their own user control panel.

An email alias is simply a forwarding e-mail address. Each e-mail alias you create simply forwards e-mail on to any e-mail address that you specify. E-mail aliases are often used to create handy replacements for long or difficult-to-remember e-mail addresses. They can also be used to create generic e-mail addresses such as webmaster@yourcompany.com and info@yourcompany.com.

Some customers want to run their own mail server in-house. If this is the case for you, we can alter your MX record any IP address. Information on how to do this is available via our support pages.

You can use the online billing account manager to update your profile, view past and current invoices activities, view orders, and submit/close support ticket activities.

On request we can change any DNS record to any IP address of your choice.

You can also do it yourself my sending us an email to activate your login to our DNS Management System.

Installatron Tools lets you easily add content management, forums, chat, e-commerce, website search and other capabilities to your website straight from your admin control panel without the need for any programming knowledge.

With File Transfer Protocol (FTP), you or your fellow site developers may need to transfer files from a computer to our web server that contains your website. If you need to transfer many files, using an FTP client is the quickest way to accomplish this, such as SmartFTP, FileZilla, AceFTP, FrontPage, Dreamweaver, on your web browser etc. You will need to enter the FTP information below to log in to your account.

If you don't have access to an FTP program, then the web based file manager is what you are after. It allows you to upload your website via a browser, manage and create files and directories, edit your source code and perform other file related activities.

With this feature you can password protect directories. This is good for sharing files within your organisation or community.

Do you want to block some people accessing your website? With this feature you will be able to block a range of IP addresses to prevent them from accessing your site. You can also enter a fully qualified domain name, and the IP Deny Manager will attempt to resolve it to an IP address for you. This allows you to install an SSL certificate purchased from a Secure Certificate provider. SSL certificates are used when sending sensitive information such as credit card information over the internet.

• You can only install a certificate if you have purchased a static IP address from us. Please see our support pages for more information.

Shell or SSH is a network protocol that allows data to be exchanged using a secure channel between two networked devices. Used primarily on Linux and Unix based systems to access shell accounts, SSH was designed as a replacement for Telnet and other insecure remote shells, which send information, notably passwords, in plaintext, leaving them open for interception. This is only for advanced users and all SSH activity is logged and monitored.

Do you want to block other websites linking to your files on your website? With HotLink protection you can protect other websites linking to files on your website. An example of hotlinking would be using a <img> tag to display an image from your site from somewhere else on the net. The end result is that the other site is stealing your bandwidth.

Leech Protect allows you to prevent your users from giving out or publicly posting their password to a restricted area of your site. This feature will redirect (and suspend if selected) accounts which have been compromised to a url of your choice.

GnuPG is a publicly available encryption scheme that uses the "public key" approach. With GnuPG, messages are encrypted using a "public key" however, they can only be decrypted by a "private key", which is retained by the intended recipient of the message.

With Webalizer you can view your website statistics including the amount of hits per day or month, top entry pages, top exit pages and what link they came from. You can also see what countries are viewing your website. This is a powerful tool that allows you to perform an analysis on your site traffic and "fine tune" your website for maximum exposure. This is a fantastic application that can help you succeed on the web.

Access your log files to find out information about which pages, images, and files are requested, who requests them, and how many bytes are transferred. These log files can be imported to a separate software package that can give you a complete breakdown and analysis of your website and how it is performing. They can give you an idea on how to "fine tune" your site to ensure maximum exposure on the web.

We perform on-site backups several times a week and weekly offsite backups to ensure no loss of data. If you feel that you have lost some data from your web pages and would like to restored it to an earlier point, we will be happy to get this back for you.

phpMyAdmin is an open source tool written in PHP intended to handle the administration of MySQL over the World Wide Web. It can do various tasks such as creating, modifying or deleting databases, tables, fields or rows; executing SQL statements; or managing users and permissions. Recommended for advanced users only.

With this tool you can allow external web servers to access your MySQL databases by adding their domain name to the list of hosts that are able to access databases on your web site.

PHP is a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for web development to create dynamic content and can be embedded into HTML. It generally runs on a web server, taking PHP code as its input and creating web pages as output.

Need to host a powerful web based application that requires a database? MySQL is the world’s largest open source database; there are literally thousands of applications that utilise this database.

Perl (Practical Extraction and Reporting Language), is an open source server side programming language extensively used for web scripts and to process data passed via the CGI (Common Gateway Interface) from HTML forms, etc.
